“As you like to see yourself”

It was a monthly checkup for me and I was sitting in the waiting hall of a private hospital. Though I could feel comfortable within the large hall where the room temperature was far below of the outside but be waiting for a long time for the call is always very much tedious. I was looking here and there, was watching the gestures of the patients gathered to consult with docs.

I watched a tall handsome man of nearly 70 entered the room, went to the reception, showed his papers, talked for a while, then turned back and was searching a seat. I recognized the man. Last month I met him here. I waved my hand and noticed that he came to me.

-Hello.

-Hi. He replied.

– I’m as usual for a regular monthly checkup. What about your son?

Last month when we met each other started talking a bit just to kill the time. What attracted me that the man is beaming energy and positivity through his eyes. I think so, may be wrong. His smiling face and pleasing way of talking, wiping out my worries and tension which I always feel whenever I go to a doctor. I came to know that his only son has been suffering from some problems and so he likes to get advice from the eminent specialist doctor here. But when I came out from the doctor’s chamber I could not see him surely he entered his doctor’s chamber, I presumed.

The man replied -“Doctors suspecting cancer. But still not sure, investigations going on. He stopped with a so nice look that as if it’s nothing just like a cough and cold. I forgot to shut my mouth. In this situation how the man could be so free from worries and be calm when his only son is a suspected patient of cancer!

The man understood what I was thinking. He said – At first I was completely puzzled and was at a loss when the doctor told me that the U.S.G report was suspicious, he got some spots in the lever, and advised me to make a C.T. scan. I asked the doc to do that day itself without any delay. When the scan was going on I concentrated to overcome my fear and tension everything. I asked myself – “what is the next step I have to do if the worst happens. I talked with a friend who came out of 4th-grade cancer. I took the name and phone no. of his doctor and asked where he made his PET scan. I collected all the information from him as he is the only person who can guide me properly. I gradually controlled my emotion and stopped worrying and got back my ability to think.

When C.T. Scan was over the doctor called me and showed the multiple lesion on the lever. He asked my permission to take some blood sample, I agreed. Then he suggested FNAC that is needle biopsy. I disagreed. I asked – Why are not we going for PET scan? The doctor replied –“Its better option.” The doctor gave me the contact number of the center. Instantly I made a call and visited their center and booked test for the next day. With all the investigation reports I admitted my son here. Already three days passed,  today I will get the final report from the doctor.” The man stopped with a gentle smile. I could not believe that a man in this crucial moment could be so calm! I could not but asked him – “ Are you not worried? Don’t you have any tension what the result will come?” The man replied, in the same manner, I always try to find out the ways when problems come, and always I try my best not to be worried.” Because when you know how to stop worrying then you can start thinking. I owe to Dale Carnegie. I practiced it when I went through his book “HOW TO STOP WORRYING AND START LIVING”. A book remains a book and a showpiece in your library unless and until you read it by heart and don’t follow it in your life.”

Just then the attendant of my doctor called my name. I shook his hand warmly with respect too and entered the chamber of the doctor. The doctor greeted me as usual with a smile- “How are you? This is the first time I felt that I’m better now.
